Zheng Lianjie

Zheng Lianjie, was born in 1962 in Beijing, began studying China’s masterpieces in the 1980s at the Imperial Palace Museum, Beijing, and moved to New York City in 1996. In the 1980s, Zheng attended Beijing Great Land Calligraphy & Painting Art School. He is the founder of China’s first private art school, Yuan Ming Yuan Artist’s Colony. Zheng has completed more than 100 meters of the Great Wall rubbing over a three year period. In 1990 his “Re-emergence of the Undiminished” was created to celebrate the reunification of the two Germanys. In 1993 his “Binding the Lost Soul; Huge Explosion”, an installation and performance art carried out on the Great Wall was banned by the authorities.
